The Uninhabitable Earth - BOOK COVER

By David Wallace-Wells

My redesign of the book cover of The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells for the Penguin Cover Design Award 2021. The amazing book about climate change. Wallace-Wells's intention was to bring facts to light and to scare the reader as this was the only way he felt the information would have its greatest impact. I gathered my inspiration from the book itself and was especially moved by the way he spoke about the sea life and how effected it really is. I made my own typography from water and ink to crate an intoxicated water effect and to have the title as the main focal point as I felt this alone was impactful.

THE CHALLENGE

Within my process to experimentation with my type I ran into a few problems. For example, making sure the type was legible and didn't seem too clustered. I then fixed this by toughing the lettering up in Photoshop.
